Curriculum Enrichment
Curriculum Enrichment
‘It is the essential knowledge that pupils need to be educated citizens, introducing them to the best that has been thought and said and helping to engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.'
By developing cultural capital, we ensure our pupils have exposure to experiences and background knowledge that will equip them with the foundations and cultural knowledge to be successful in future education and careers.
We offer a wide range of experiences and challenges that enrich our core curriculum. This allows our pupils to learn outside the classroom and develop the skills for the world beyond their primary education. We achieve this through well-chosen curriculum visits, workshops and topic related days. Examples of these trips include visits to Winchester Science Museum, Wisley Gardens, Southall Gurdwara and Rural Life Museum. We also personally invite visitors to the school – for example, authors, parents, and sports people.
Across the year, each year group has one additional special event that is recognised through activities in class, visitors in school or sharing of learning during assembly times. These include the following:
- Year 3 – Road Safety with a visit from DHL
- Year 4 – Chinese New Year with a visit from a parent
- Year 5 – International Women’s Day
- Year 6 – Remembrance Day
We are also proud of the additional sporting events our children participate in including the following: panathlon competition, badminton competition, football league, netball league, cross country events, district sports and indoor athletics.
Furthermore, our children have opportunities to showcase their musical and theatrical talents through opportunities such as the Christmas performance and Year 6 production. Children can also sign up to attend our Rock Steady club.
The school also provides many extra-curricular clubs, some run by our own staff and some by outside providers. Our clubs range from chess, tennis, judo, football, choir performances and art to name but a few.
In addition, our pupils support charities during the year. For example, this year we supported Children In Need through a non-uniform day and bake sale.
